Lauren Wedgeworth, MS, LPC, RPT
Lauren Wedgeworth is a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in play therapy for children and activity therapy for adolescents. Lauren graduated in 2009 from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Art in Psychology and with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2012. Lauren’s counseling style reflects her belief that individuals can grow, heal and gain self-awareness within a supportive, open and accepting environment.
Lauren works collaboratively with her clients to develop and work toward treatment goals through skill building and expressive activities. Lauren’s counseling philosophy is a holistic form of therapy in which she works with clients to help investigate lifestyle patterns and early experiences. Lauren helps her clients in creating new goals for the future while building skills for long term and short term growth. Lauren tailors her approach to meet the unique needs of the individuals with whom she works. She is experienced in working with adults, adolescents and children working through many different difficulties such as abuse, trauma, PTSD, depression, hyperactivity, anxiety, parenting issues and many others. Lauren utilizes play therapy with young children with the understanding that children best express themselves symbolically through play, and achieve healing in a safe and supportive environment. Lauren also utilizes her training in activity therapy to work with adolescents and adults achieve growth and healing through expressive activities.
- Awarded the designation of Registered Play Therapist (RPT) through the Association for Play Therapy, which demonstrates Lauren’s specialized play therapy knowledge and training. To earn the RPT a counselor must: demonstrate coursework in child development, theories of personality, principles of psychotherapy, and child & adolescent psychopathology, and ethics. Plus Clinical experience required by state licensure roughly equivalent to 2 years and 3,000 hours of general mental health clinical experience. And 835 play therapy specific hours of experience.
Lauren has two children ages 3 and 7 and a brown and white Dalmatian named Bruno. She is a self-proclaimed “Harry Potter nerd” and would identify herself as a “Grifflepuff.” When she is not counseling, she enjoys volunteering in the community, adventures and silly dance parties with her children and has recently begun trying her hand at gardening. She loves music of all kinds and practices art and writing in her spare time.
